The Inspiration Behind the Academy – Interview with Dr. Boris Stoilov

Education and innovation in fetal medicine are not merely advantages – they are necessities. Through the Academy, we have the opportunity to deliver this knowledge to specialists here and contribute to a better future for mothers and their children.

Dr. Stoilov shares the motivation behind founding the Academy of Prenatal Medicine and its mission to enhance the qualification of OB/GYN specialists in Bulgaria.

The idea of the Academy is something I have wanted to realize for a long time. I see tremendous potential and a growing need for deeper training in fetal medicine in Bulgaria, along with a genuine desire from many specialists to improve and advance. Fetal medicine is a field that demands continuous development of knowledge and skills due to its dynamic evolution and rapid technological progress. Through the Academy, I want to make innovations and international expertise accessible to our colleagues, because ultimately, all of this directly impacts the care provided to mothers and their future children.
The primary goal of the Academy is to enable obstetricians, gynecologists, and trainees to acquire practical skills and up-to-date knowledge that enrich their expertise and directly influence the quality of healthcare in Bulgaria. Through lectures and practical sessions covering various aspects of prenatal diagnosis and treatment, we aim to foster a community of professionals who work according to the highest international standards.
For me, as a specialist with years of experience in fetal medicine, the Academy is the realization of a long-awaited endeavor. My professional journey has always been guided by the goal of improving medical care and patient outcomes. The Academy gives me the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the years with colleagues and to create an environment for knowledge exchange and professional growth. I truly believe that, together, we can raise the level of prenatal medicine in Bulgaria.
The Academy’s program is designed to cover all essential aspects of fetal diagnosis and treatment. Topics include early detection of congenital anomalies, fetal anatomy ultrasound, and modern techniques for managing complications — these are just some highlights from the lecture part of the program. Practical sessions using ultrasound machines and simulators allow participants to engage closely with the latest technologies. The training is focused on improving diagnostic accuracy and the recognition of rare but serious conditions during pregnancy.
